Medicines and emergency contraception in schools, the role of the nurse

Coulanges V

Abstract: Among her many roles, the school nurse is authorised to administer certain medicines: over-the-counter products but also, in accordance with specific rules and protocols, medicines which are normally subject to medical prescription and, in certain cases, emergency contraception. Autonomous but acting within a network of partners, she has a pivotal role in public health in schools.

Comment: This French paper emphasizes how important it is that emergency contraception is available at easy accessable levels for young women. (HMV)
