Fistula Surgery Demonstrated on Film

Fistula development following childbirth is among the most troubling of puerperal morbidities, particularly in those areas of the world where experienced surgeons are scarce.

Dr. Brian Hancock produced two videos in 2000 to assist in the training of surgeons in the treatment of vaginal fistulas. Filmed on location at the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital these videos demonstrate the procedures that can be followed for successful fistula repair.

The Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital opened in 1975 and has performed 20,000 fistula repairs, with as many as four performed simultaneously.

Since 2000 when the videos were released, Dr. Hancock has added additional information and modified some information. This material is found below in the "Commentary" section and is essential for a full understanding of the current procedures.
