PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen)

The PSA is used to screen for prostate cancer, and to follow the effectiveness of treatment of prostate cancer.
  • Large increases are seen in prostate cancer.
  • Moderate increases are seen in benign prostatic hypertrophy.
  • Mild increases are seen following prostate examination, and occasionally in normal individuals.

Normal Values*

Men < Age 40 0-2.7 ng/ml
Men > Age 40 0-4.0 mg/ml
