Indications:

Source of water and electrolytes
Alkalinizing agent

Contraindications:

None known

Precautions:

Pregnancy category A
CHF, renal insufficiency, edema states with sodium retention
Hyperkalemia, metabolic or respiratory alkalosis
DO NOT administer simultaneously with blood through same administration set because of the likelihood of coagulation

Adverse Reactions (Side Effects):

fever, infection at administration site, venous thrombosis
extravasation, hypervolemia

Dosage:

Administered intravenously

IV:
- dose is dependent upon age, weight, and clinical condition of the patient as well as laboratory determinations.
