E. vaginitis due to Trichomonas vaginalis

Vaginitis is not likely to cause abdominal pain or fever directly. The vaginal discharge could be due to T. vaginalis infection. In addition, the patient may have PID, and there is some speculation that T. vaginalis may be a facilitating factor in some women. The theory is that the motile protozoa in the endocervical canal may carry bacteria into the upper genital tract. A wet prep of the discharge will determine whether trichomoniasis is present in addition to whatever else is causing the patient’s abdominal pain
