SGGT is found in the liver and kidney, but the liver contributes the largest amount of SGGT to the blood.
Although it can be used to evaluate liver disease, it is widely used in the monitoring of alcoholic patients. Relatively small amounts of imbibed alcohol can have significant effects on the SGGT levels.
